Success Stories from South Africa

How your donations are making a difference

We're excited to share some of the stories of the children you help support with your donations to The Love Quilt Project. Our South African children receive quilts with messages of love, along with a donation towards their educational needs. Here are their stories:

Kadi

With your generous support, Kadi has been able to attend the Mary Kihn School for the Hearing Impaired since 2018. Her favorite subjects are sign language and creative arts. Her confidence has grown tremendously during the past few years, despite the many challenges she has endured. She participated in the school's pageant this year and placed first! Kadi is a very talented golfer and has been selected to play for the South African Disabled Golf Association. She received her Love Quilt in 2016 and continues to benefit from your donations towards her education.

Kadi is in the process of applying to eDeaf, a college for deaf students, to study English and sign language next year. She also hopes to become a golf coach/mentor specializing in training physically disabled learners.

Anna

Anna was a quiet young girl when she first arrived at Home from Home's foster home. With the stability of a loving home environment, she soon settled into the house with five foster siblings.

This past Febuary, Anna graduated from nursing college and was delighted to receive her first nursing uniform. In April, she started her first practical placement at Groote Schuur, the internationally renowned academic hospital in Cape Town where the world’s first heart transplant took place. Anna received her Love Quilt in 2016 and has benefitted from your donations towards her education.

Amahle

(her identity is obscured due to her age)

Your donations have supported Amahle's education at the Batavia School of Skills, where she studies within the hospitality program. She enjoys the practical aspects of cooking and baking, and is excited for her next few years of school. She cannot wait to get her chef outfit!

Amahle has had a number of health issues which have affected her physically and academically. She was diagnosed with an eye tracking disorder and struggles with reading. Despite these challenges, she is confident and outgoing, with an excellent grasp of the English language. Amahle treasures her Love Quilt's messages of love that comfort her during a difficult day.
