invest in a quilt, invest in a child

On November 2 we launch our Invest in a Quilt, Invest in a Child campaign to raise $100,000 by December 31. We count on the support of our donors as the driving force in giving these foster children a fighting chance at a prosperous adult life. Here are some ways you can help change the life of a child who is growing up in foster care:

$200 – Supports the delivery of a handmade quilt to one child in South Africa or America and provides the necessary tools the child needs to go to school; or supports the counseling needed for one American child to successfully integrate into a foster home after the trauma of removal and separation.

$1,500 – Supports an entire year of tuition for one child in South Africa or can help children cope with their emotional needs in the U.S.

$3,000 – supports an entire year of tuition for one child in South Africa and covers the necessary transportation, tutoring, and extracurricular activities required by the school. It also allows LQP to partner with local foster care organizations.

Any donation is appreciated and will help change the lives of these foster children.

Your donation helps to support a child in these ways…

1.    School fees

2.    Tutoring - South African schools in poorer communities do not have the resources to provide additional educational support to our children. Research has shown that a minimum of two hours of tutoring per week is necessary to show an effective impact to bridge gaps for our children

3.    School supplies – uniforms, stationery, backpacks, and books.

4.    Transportation to school

5.    IT support & computers - Provides connectivity to each of the homes where our South African children live. The organizations we work with focus on providing training and support to each of their foster homes. Technology is an ongoing cost that is very necessary in our world today.

 6.    Required extracurricular activities - South Africa fee-paying schools require our children to participate in activities outside of school. Sports and music are some of the extra enrichments that requires extra fees, along with additional transportation, uniforms, and equipment to round out the education picture.

 7.    Emotional support - In poorer South African communities’ schools do not provide emotional support. Most of our American and South African children have experienced trauma in their lives, and many have educational disadvantages as a result. This means they cannot simply fit in and manage normal school demands. They require therapy and additional psychological help to build confidence in themselves.

 8.    Art Square Lesson - The art square lesson is given to American children in schools across the United States and to our South African children who receive a quilt. The lesson focuses on teaching the importance of supporting children who are less fortunate. We ask the children to embrace kindness, practice compassion, stand up for justice, offer hope, and work for the common good. The children participate in a form of art therapy as they take these feelings and create a message of love and support on an art square that will ultimately be stitched into a quilt and given to a child in need.

 9.    Quilt supplies - such as batting and fabric

10.    Administrative costs
